Single vision lenses

One focus. Total clarity.

Optolite single vision lenses have one power across the whole lens, set precisely for distance or for reading. Choose ready-stock lenses for common prescriptions, or lenses surfaced in the laboratory for your exact power.

What it is

One power, from edge to edge.

A single vision lens corrects one viewing distance. Light passing through any part of the lens is focused the same way, so the whole lens gives you a consistent, wide field of clear vision.

  • For short-sightedness (myopia)A minus lens to bring distant objects — the road, the board, the screen across the room — into focus.
  • For long-sightedness (hyperopia)A plus lens to help your eyes focus comfortably, especially up close.
  • For astigmatismA cylinder power in the lens corrects unevenly curved eyes for sharper vision at every angle.
  • For readingA dedicated near power for books, phones and close work.

Choose your material

Slimmer lenses for stronger prescriptions.

Single vision lenses for higher powers get noticeably thicker at the edge (for minus lenses) or the centre (for plus lenses). A higher index reduces that thickness. Try it:

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is a single vision lens?

A single vision lens has one power across the whole lens. It corrects one viewing distance — for example distance vision for short-sightedness (myopia), or near vision for reading glasses — and can also correct astigmatism.

What is the difference between stock (finished) and RX lenses?

Finished stock lenses are pre-made in common prescription ranges and are ready quickly. RX lenses are surfaced in a laboratory to your exact prescription, which allows wider power ranges and add-ons such as tints or polarised options on eligible clear lenses.

Can I get tinted or polarised single vision lenses?

Tint and polarised options are not offered on stock lenses. Eligible clear RX single vision lenses can take a fashion tint or a polarised add-on — ask your optician which combinations are available for your prescription.

Which index should I choose for single vision?

For mild prescriptions 1.50 or 1.56 work well. 1.59 polycarbonate is light and impact-resistant. For stronger prescriptions 1.60, 1.67 or 1.74 help reduce thickness. See our lens index guide to compare.
