- Bifocal lenses
Two zones. A familiar choice.
Distance above, reading below. Choose the round Kryptok segment or the flat-top D Bifocal — a dependable way to see far and near in one pair of glasses.
Segment shapes shown schematically.
Round or flat-top?
Kryptok — the round segment
A circular reading segment set into the lower part of the lens. Its rounded outline is discreet and blends with the lens shape. Available in 1.50 and 1.59, clear and photochromic in listed combinations.
D Bifocal — the flat-top segment
A reading segment with a straight top edge, shaped like a “D” on its side. The straight top places the widest part of the reading area right where your eyes first drop to read. Available in 1.50 clear.
- Distance aboveThe main lens carries your distance prescription for looking ahead.
- Reading belowThe segment adds your reading power (ADD) for close work.
- A visible lineThe edge of the segment is visible on the lens — the familiar sign of a bifocal.
Bifocal or progressive?
Both correct distance and near vision. The difference is the middle — and the line.

Frequently asked questions
What is a bifocal lens?
A bifocal lens has two powers: the main lens for distance, and a smaller segment at the bottom for reading. The segment edge is visible on the lens.
What is the difference between Kryptok and D Bifocal?
A Kryptok bifocal has a round reading segment that blends into the lens shape. A D Bifocal (also called flat-top) has a segment with a straight top edge, shaped like a ‘D’ on its side, which gives a wider reading area at the top of the segment.
Should I choose a bifocal or a progressive?
Bifocals give two clear zones and are familiar to many wearers. Progressives add an intermediate zone for arm’s-length tasks and have no visible line. If you use screens a lot, a progressive is often more comfortable — discuss with your optician.
Can bifocal lenses be photochromic or tinted?
Kryptok bifocals are available in photochromic in selected combinations. Tint and polarised options are not offered on bifocals.
